Road Cycling Training

There are many different sub-disciplines in the road cycling world, and as such, they each have specific approaches that will help cater to the specific demands of the event.  This article will explain the ideal Base, Build, Specialty progression for each race discipline, as well as offer Podcast Commentary that dives into race tactics and other race specific content.

Criterium:

Criterium Racing is incredibly dynamic.  Huge bursts of power at strategic points in the race make the difference between hanging on and getting spit out the back. The Criterium Plan is designed to prepare you for these kinds of attacks, and make sure that you can put down big power, but also recover in time for the next surge.

Rolling/ Climbing Road Race:

These plans are for the pure-bred road racers.  If you're into long days in the saddle, playing it smart with your team, then these plans are for you.

General Power Build

Rolling Road Race or Climbing Road Race 

  • Climbing Road Race is best suited for events with long extended climbs that will be pivotal in the outcome of the race.
  • If your events do not have long extended climbs, then Rolling Road Race is better suited

Century:

The Century Plan is designed to help you maintain power levels just below your FTP, for long periods of time. This power profile is beneficial for many events such as Gran Fondos, endurance Gravel Races such as the Dirty Kanza, and other forms of adventure riding.
